I Wanna Become an Influencer Part 2: Your AUDIENCE

Influencers: Who is your audience?
Last week, we talked about your WHY, and I hope it got you to look deeper into what your ultimate purpose is to build a community. Today, we’ll talk about who that community is.

If you’re new to the influencer world, you probably are still trying to figure out who your target audience is and what your niche is. I’m sure you follow a wide variety of influencers on social media and aspire to be on their level with a big platform. And trust me that you will get there when you master the simplicities first.

And part of that simplicity is the importance of building a community and creating relationships with people through your platform(s) of choice.

I quote Theodore Roosevelt on this at least once a week: “Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Before fame, before turning this journey into your career, know that you are in the business of serving people, no matter what kind of content you create. They follow you and give you the time of day for a reason. So make sure this journey is more about them than it is about you.

Let’s figure out your audience:

1. What is your niche? Your niche is the overall topic you speak about on Instagram.
Mine is LIFESTYLE
2. Who is your ideal follower?
My ideal follower is a female from ages 24-35, most likely career-driven
3. What are they interested in? How do they spend their free time? What do they typically invest their money in?
(Here’s my answer for when I got started on Instagram as a beauty influencer)
My audience is interested in makeup and skincare. They love to try new makeup looks and try beauty products that best suit their skin. They invest on the newest releases at Sephora and Ulta.

(Here’s my answer now)
My audience wants to navigate through their adult life better in their career journey, as well as other areas of their life. They are well-rounded modern women. These women invest in a wholistic, well-balanced lifestyle, inside and out. They also want more out of life and expand on their purpose in life. They invest their time and money on what’s important to them to be better–from cleaner beauty products, to supplements, to the next vacay or experience, to motivation and positivity.

Now that you have your audience, time to figure out what kind of content you will create. Answer these:

1. How do you plan to add value and help your audience? What is your expertise that everyone can benefit from?
2. How are you going to use your story and experience to provide lessons and tips?
3. What are they gonna keep coming back for? Why should your audience keep following you?
4. Who is your inspiration for the content I want to create?
