Review: Garnier SkinActive Collection

I was so excited when I received some items from Garnier’s SkinActive collection because I have religiously used the original All-In-One Micellar Cleansing Water ($8.99 at Ulta) since it came out and I was actually intrigued to try out the other micellar water formulas and find out the differences between the three.

The SkinActive Micellar Water All-in-One Cleanser and Makeup Remover ($8.99) is the very first one I tried and I use it for cleansing my skin for when I am pressed for time. When I discovered micellar water, I was a bit skeptical of its actual power. But when I took this with me to a camping trip in Big Sur, where we had limited access to water, I was mind-blown. Not only does it cleanse the skin, but it is also gentle on the skin and did not strip my skin dry. It acts like a magnet where it lifts up dirt and surface dry skin, oil and makeup without needing to rub harshly.

I love using this for refreshing my skin and quick-cleansing my face before makeup application if I don’t have time to wash my face (ie going out at night after a long day). I also love using this to clean my skin before I wax my body because it doesn’t leave my skin overly dry.

The SkinActive Micellar Water All-in-One Cleanser and Waterproof Makeup Remover ($8.99) was the formula I was most intrigued to try because I really wanted to test out how well it took off my makeup. I tried this after some of the holiday parties I had the past few weeks and I was very impressed by how well it took off my matte lipstick and liquid lipsticks! As much as I love my vampy and bold lipsticks during holiday parties, I also don’t like eating with lipstick on. I’m a foodie, so I like to comfortably eat without feeling like I have food getting stuck to my lipstick. I just shook the bottle, soaked up a cotton pad with the shaken micellar water, let the micellar water break down the product before gently wiping off the lipstick off my lips. My lips didn’t feel irritated at all and I loved that about this! Definitely gonna use this for lip swatches from now on instead of using a regular makeup wipe.

This formula is powerful and when I found out it was oil free, I was sold! I’ve been meaning to find a powerful makeup remover that won’t deactivate the glue from my lash extensions and I am so happy to have found the one that I can use to remove my eye makeup as well. I love using this for those days when I’m feeling extremely lazy to deep clean my face before bed (because we all have those days, am I right?).

The SkinActive Micellar Water All-in-One Mattifying Cleanser and Makeup Remover ($8.99) was the formula I would recommend for people who had oily skin because it is mattifying. Since my skin is combination, I only used this on my T-zone and it didn’t leave a greasy residue behind. I’m not sure about the “mattifying” properties of this formula, though. I’m not big on skincare items that claim to “mattify” just because in my experience, they just amplify the oiliness of my skin. Haven’t tried it long enough to see a difference on my T-zone, so maybe I will revisit this in the summertime.

The SkinActive Soothing Facial Mist with Rose Water ($8.99) was the surprising product that I tried out of the bunch. I wasn’t really expecting much out of this mist because I already have my holy grail facial mists, but Garnier just proved me wrong. I have been using this to prime and set my makeup and I haven’t put it down since. The mist is one of the finest I’ve tried and the mist feels amazing every time I spritz it on. And the rosewater and the rose scent is just an added bonus! I love using this on my bare skin to refresh when my skin is feeling dull as well as calm my skin down after a night of masks and deep cleaning.

I ended up liking the micellar waters for different purposes, but the original and the waterproof micellar cleansing waters were my standouts. I love that these are so affordable and accessible and work so well on my sensitive skin because my skin tends to get picky with drugstore skincare. If you want to try it out for yourself, get $2.00 off any Garnier micellar product if you purchase from Ulta.com with the code GRNSAVE2.
