So you’ve booked your tickets and know all about how to visit Tulum responsibly, you know which of the best restaurants in Tulum you’re gonna eat at (because with food being one of my love languages, that’s what I plan first too!), and you know which IG worthy cenotes you’re going to visit (tbh, it’s all of them).
Now you just need to know which places to stay in Tulum, and guess what? I gotchu covered on that too!
This complete guide breaks down where to stay in Tulum into 4 sections: Hostels (under USD $50/night), Affordable Hotels (under USD $100/night), Mid-range Hotels (USD $100-$200/night), and some of the best Luxury Hotels in Tulum (USD $200+/night).
I’ve even included recommendations from places I’ve personally stayed at too. No matter what your budget is, there’s something for everyone on this list!
There are two main areas to stay: Tulum Pueblo (the town) or Tulum Beach. It’s a few miles from the Pueblo to the Beach. Many hotels offer free or cheap bicycle rentals to guests so you can easily get to either of the main areas that you’re not staying in.
There’s another less popular area to stay in: Aldea Zama. It’s a luxury development between the Pueblo and the Beach, which mostly consists of high-end homes, condos and Airbnbs with a few boutique hotels and restaurants. A lot of the area is still under construction, but offers a calm and quiet area to stay in.
Tulum Beach is divided into 4 sections that have their own vibe. You’ll find the best fine dining restaurants, outdoor nightlife, and luxury hotels in Tulum on the beach.
Tulum Pueblo is the best area for Tulum on a budget. Most of the hostels are here and hotels tend to be in the budget and mid-range. It’s a lively area where there is no shortage of affordable restaurants, bars, and clubs. You’ll also get more of an authentic and traditional feel in the Pueblo. It’s surrounded by jungle with a lot of nature to be explored (including cenotes) that is easily reachable by a short bike ride.
All hostel or hotel rates listed below are subject to change due to availability, season, and other factors. Rates listed reflect the range or starting point for the most cost effective option for each accommodation just to give you an idea. Hostels or hotels may have other room types that don’t fall within the specified budget category.
Ranked as the 9th “Most desired hostel to visit in the world,” on the popular hostel booking website, Hostelworld, Che Tulum is definitely one to consider if you are visiting Tulum on a budget. Located in the heart of Tulum Pubelo, it’s within walking distance from the bus station, largest supermarkets, the main road, popular bars and clubs, and less than 2 miles to the beach.
The hostel has affordable shared dorms with up to 8 beds that offer curtains for privacy, plugs in each bed, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, large lockers, and bathrooms for each suite. Common areas include hammocks, a pool, beach beds by the solarium, and a restaurant & bar.

The Selina brand actually has about 60 destinations worldwide. Their boutique hotel and hostel in Tulum is a beachfront property with the most cost effective option being the 6- or 10-bed dorms. If you’re a digital nomad, the ocean view community rooms create an amazing co-work environment, and if you’re there to just chill Selina offers a lot to do – there’s a pool, cinema, yoga lessons, and other activities in their wellness center.
Selina Tulum is within walking distance to a few of the best restaurants in Tulum that I mentioned in my ultimate restaurant guide, like Gitano and Raw Love. What makes this one of the best beach hotels in Tulum on a budget is that some of the trendiest spots in Tulum are nearby, including on-site Mia Restaurant & Beach Club.
Didn’t think you’d find luxury hotels in Tulum on the beach in the budget category when looking at where to stay in Tulum, did ya? But you know I always got your back!

Mimosa Tulum is a boutique hotel and hostel. One of the smaller places to stay in Tulum on this list, the property offers your choice between a 6-bed dorm, a Teepee experience, or a larger Double Room (with private bathroom). The vibe at Mimosa is a mix of modern, cozy, chic and a bit of luxury. On site there is a beautiful turquoise pool, a simple bar, and a lounge above the bar. For a unique stay in Tulum on a budget, go for the Teepee experience – it’s concrete, has a queen bed, and a cute sitting area outside of it.

Don’t let that impact your decision to consider this when looking for where to stay in Tulum though. Consider this as one of the best beach hotels in Tulum on a budget because it has its own private cenote! Surrounded by lush jungle and mangroves and with the beach close by, it’s the ideal stay when you’re visiting Tulum.

This 1-bedroom Airbnb apartment is a fresh and modern space with everything you need for a quiet stay in the La Valeta area of Tulum. There’s 2 pools on-site and cenotes and beaches aren’t too far away. Downtown Tulum is also nearby, but the thing I loved most about this spot is the restaurant close to the apartment that has really good tacos that I could eat every day.

A “renovated classic,” in Tulum Pueblo, Hotel Posada 06 is one of the best places to stay in Tulum if you’re looking for an adults-only hotel. If a hostel isn’t your thing but you’re still visiting Tulum on a budget, this is an awesome choice. Stay in one of the Standard Rooms, each of which has a patio overlooking the garden and pool. Or splurge a little on the King Room that comes with an outdoor tub – umm, yes please! – and still keep it under $100/night.

For couples who can’t splurge on luxury hotels in Tulum Beach that are a few hundred dollars per night, Calaluna is for you. It’s an adults-only hotel with its own private beach and a jungleside rooftop for gorgeous sunsets – how’s that for a perfect romantic getaway?
Even if you’re not traveling as a couple, this is still an awesome spot! There’s direct access to the beach and it’s right across from Tunich – where Teresa and I were able to pick up coffee each morning as early as 7am before we went out to shoot content and drive to the cenotes.

Situated in the up and coming Aledea Zama zone, Náay Tulum’s suites are the best places to stay in Tulum to get the best value for your money. It’s close to the Mayan Ruins in Parque Nacional de Tulum, and the tranquil rooftop offers a wellness spa, a pool, and a restaurant & bar for sunset dinners which offers Mexican and International cuisine. If you’re looking for an out-of-the-ordinary experience, look no further than Mamasan as one of the best beach hotels in Tulum just for that. Instead of hotel rooms and suites, Mamasan offers treehouses and cabins designed in a 360° shape. Mamasan was built with natural materials and respect for the land in mind – not only avoiding damage to the ecosystem, but to showcase it. Rounding up the best places to stay in Tulum is one of my favorite hotels. Bardo is a secluded hotel that offers villas within the Mayan jungle where guests can experience pure nature. The villas have a living room, bedroom, and bathroom with semi exterior shower plus a private pool. Bardo also offers experiences such as Celebration of Sunset, Temazcal, Sound Healing, Yoga, and a Spa/Healing Center as an invitation to be present.

For the perfect combo between luxury and simplicity, stay at Libelula and choose between a jungle or sea cabana or a beach view sky suite. Libelula also has a private beach club, too (which you can go to even if you’re not staying there). But hands down, what makes it the best beach hotels in Tulum is that from May to October they are part of a local Marine Turtle Protection Program which is a special nature experience to learn about how to protect this species.

With a name that translates to “my love,” you know that this is one of the best beach hotels for celebrating love – for each other, for food, for music, for life… all of which they focus on at the adults-only hotel, Mi Amor. Situated on top of a rocky cliff surrounded by tropical forest, this is among the most romantic luxury hotels in Tulum for couples.
Featuring a minimalist design, rain showers, complimentary breakfast, an infinity pool, beach access and a cutting-edge cocktail bar, and French/Italian restaurant, this is also one of the best places to stay in Tulum if you’re wanting to splurge on some self-love too.

You’ve probably heard of the last two places on this list of where to stay in Tulum because they also made the cut in my restaurant guide. Just like Be Tulum’s restaurant offers an extensive menu, the hotel offers a range of accommodations depending on your needs. There are a various suites for small groups, couples, or the solo traveler while the villas at Be Tulum accommodate up to 10 people. The eco-suites and villas are fully decked out with everything you need (except a TV!) for a comfortable beachfront hotel stay, including a beach bar with rustic vibes.

Inspired by the local heritage with respect for the land that the hotel is built on, Nômade has created a space for learning. They incorporate authentic representation of Mayan culture through the opportunity to experience sacred rituals, ceremonies, and ancient Mayan healing treatments. The on-site restaurant offers holistic cuisine in-line with the wellness aspect of the hotel where you can choose between suites, treehouses, Nômade style tents, or villas. Each one offers a unique vibe you can’t find at other luxury hotels in Tulum.
